Traditional Ethiopian clothing is made of cotton. Most white robes and dresses are woven at home. The traditional woman’s wardrobe is made up of three items: kemis (dress), mekent (sash) and netela (shawl).
Stripes decorate the borders of the traditional robes, which are expertly embroidered with geometric shapes. The women prepare the cotton and do the embroidery while the men weave the clothing.
